Details of Disappearance
John Jay Ashley Jr. was last seen by his mom on morning of December 14th 1971 at their home at 427 E. 35th Street in Wilmington DE as he left for school. At the time he was carrying $45 buy Christmas presents. He never returned home. School records indicate he did attend school the day he went missing. Jay also attended basketball practice. Jay apparently disappeared while walking home that night. He has never been seen again. Jay disappeared the same night another boy from his neighborhood did. Leroy J. Morgan disappeared and it was thought that the two disappearances were linked. There was a supposed sighting of them both together on January 3rd 1972 at 11th and Kirkwood St. Morgan's body was later found. No signs of foul play were present on the body. The body washed up along the shores of the Christina River.
